Get the burnt area under cold running water immediately for at least 20 minutes. Cover the burn loosely with a temporary dressing of cling film or a plastic bag. A wet cloth can be put on top to provide cooling after the initial 20 minutes cold water treatment. You can also soak a flannel in ice cold milk, but it must be full fat milk and apply to the burn to soothe it.
Leave the burn alone to form a blister and don’t break the blister, as it is nature’s way of healing the wound. If the blister bursts, apply some antiseptic cream and cover loosely with a dressing.
After a day or two, apply some aloe vera gel from a freshly cut leaf or an aloe cream or gel to the burn. The gel moistens the skin and keeps bacteria and air out of the burn.
