Spring Daffodils


1077151_bsnow-on-daffodil-shoots-lexington-massachusetts-postersLast autumn I planted my first daffodil bulbs and the green shoots are just starting to emerge from the ground. In the snow and frost we had recently, the sight of the sturdy green shoots emerging from the hard frosty ground really lifted my spirts. I came across this quote recently: “Every gardener knows that under the cloak of winter lies a miracle…..a seed waiting to sprout, a bulb opening to the light, a bud straining to unfurl…” What a beautiful image, one full of hope and anticpation.  I am looking forward to doing lots more planting and growing in the coming months. For after all, to quote from a Hans Christian Anderson story:

“Just living isn’t enough, said the butterfly, “one must also have freedom, sunshine, and a little flower”.
